Bishop Herbert C. Crump, Jr.

Senior Pastor

Bishop Herbert C. Crump, Jr., honorably and humbly serves as the Senior Pastor and Founder of Freedom Temple Ministries, Inc., a multicultural, spirit filled church located in Rock Hill, SC. In addition, Bishop Crump serves as the 2nd Vice-Bishop of the Mount Calvary Holy Church of America under the Episcopal Leadership of Bishop Alfred A. Owens Jr. and International First Lady, Co-Pastor Susie Owens. Bishop Crump also serves as the Jurisdictional Bishop for the States of South Carolina and Louisiana.

Since the inception of Freedom Temple Ministries on October 8, 2000 with 38 members, thousands have been added to the congregation, and more importantly, to the Kingdom of God through the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

On Sunday, January 11, 2004, fire totally destroyed the physical home of Freedom Temple but not the spiritual heart of its pastor and congregation. Just 11 months later, God empowered Bishop Crump to lead Freedom Temple into purchasing, what is known today as The Freedom Center. This 65,000 square foot multi-purpose facility consists of the historic Hemphill Auditorium and the Family Life Center, providing basketball, weightlifting, and exercise activities for the entire family. In addition, The Freedom Center hosts the Freedom Counseling Center, Freedom Bookstore, Freedom Café, and the administrative headquarters for Freedom Temple Ministries.

Bishop Crump’s commitment to the divine call upon his life extends far beyond the pulpit. He presently serves as the President of Freedom Montessori School. He’s also served as the past President of the Rock Hill Branch of the NAACP, A York County Department of Juvenile Justice Auxiliary Probation Officer, A York County Minority Scholarship Foundation Committee Member, and an Old Town Rock Hill Association Member, and he also became the first African-American member of the Rock Hill Chapter of Kiwanis Club International. Bishop Crump is also fraternity connected to the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Bishop Crump has traveled nationally and internationally proclaiming Freedom to the world, and as a result, has received countless awards recognizing his leadership and civic involvement to include the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award, NAACP Southeastern Region Benjamin L. Hooks Religious Leaders Award, and the prestigious Laney Award of Rock Hill.

Bishop Crump’s commitment to holistic excellence motivated his return to school receiving a certificate in Non Profit Business Management from Winthrop University School of Business, an Associate’s Degree in Religious Studies from Clinton Jr. College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with a dual concentration in Religion and History from Livingstone College, and a Master’s Degree of Liberal Arts in Political and Civic Engagement from Winthrop University.

Bishop Crump’s life demonstrates God’s ability to transform a high school dropout, G.E.D recipient, and a former military inmate, into a powerful prolific preacher/teacher, proclaiming to the world “He Whom the son sets free is free indeed!”

Bishop Crump is happily married to Mrs. Dawn Capers-Crump, and they are the proud parents of Joshua Armani Crump and Jenesis Alayia Crump.
